In Indore we came together with an institution that is specialized with the construction and distribution of solar cookers. They presented several models of these cookers and we were impressed by the possibilities they offered. The most favorite model was a parabola-cooker. With this cooker all the usually dishes for this region can be cooked easily (also chapati).
On Dattigaon-Mission we had a representation and training day where a lot of villagers took part and by the end of the day we had 40 solar cookers to order. The price for one solar cooker is 180.- Swiss francs and the villagers bear 10 % of these costs. This is a sum the villagers can afford and as the cooker has a price it means that it is worth something. It is also a guarantee that the villagers will use the solar cooker and do not take it as a “toy” they got for free. Meanwhile 50 solar cookers are used on the mission and in the villages. During our stay we checked the cookers and gave them numbers so that we can report
its location and usage.

Solar kitchen
An additional project was the building of a solar cooking station on the mission. With the traditional way of cooking around 150 kg of wood per day were used to cook the meals for 400 children. The expenses for the firewood were as high as for the food. After thinking about this fact, we came to the solution that a solar cooking stating with 4 big parabola mirrors could relieve the situation. In the year 2006 we were able to open the new kitchen with the generous help of the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED). The kitchen can be used the whole year except the months during the rainy season and brings a very helpful relief of
the costs of the mission and can help to protect the environment.

Photovoltaik-Anlage (german text only)
Als weiteres Kleinprojekt des Liechtensteinischen Entwicklungsdienstes konnte im Dezember 2010 die Installation einer Photovoltaik-Anlage realisiert werden. Dank der wertvollen Mithilfe von Gabriel Gerner, Marcos Garcia Tome und Gallus Keller, die die Planung, Dimensionierung, Bestellung und Installation der Anlage vor Ort übernahmen, konnte dieses Projekt erfolgreich innert kurzer Frist durchgeführt werden. Die Anlage liefert nun Strom für Licht, Ventilatoren, PC's und Haushaltsgeräte im neu erbauten Trainingscenter für Biologische Landwirtschaft in Dattigaon. Ebenfalls konnte das nahe gelegene Wohnheim der Kinder und das Missionsgebäude an die Anlage angeschlossen werden. Dadurch nun endlich über 24 Stunden am Tag über Strom und elektrisches Licht zum Lernen zu verfügen ist ein wirklich ungewohnter "Luxus" für die Kinder von Dattigaon.
